The objectives of the two-year second-level course in Painting include the training of professionals who are able to work in the fields of painting and related disciplines.

The improvement of specialized operators is articulated in a path that includes the knowledge of diversified techniques of visual representation, also in the light of a more recent iconography. The educational activities include, in addition to traditional painting techniques, the experimentation of renewed techniques and alternative and proactive contemporary languages; the acquisition of skills related to the new digital modeling techniques is also envisaged.

The educational offer encompasses disciplines aimed at enhancing the various expressions of contemporary art, aims to increase skills and to enhance the application possibilities connected with the management of exhibition spaces. In fact, knowledge and abilities appear to be naturally related to the figure of the artist, due to the ability to set up exhibitions, events and artistic events in general, so the proposed didactics also aims at enhancing skills that allow the optimization of those cultural and creative processes that they are already the artist’s privileged goal and, furthermore, to enhance the marketing capacity of the works created.

The course includes courses that are a natural evolution of the teaching implemented in the corresponding and preparatory three-year course.

Teaching activities in the strict sense will include, in addition to laboratories and theoretical lessons, seminars, exercises, training internships with artists, art galleries, museums, institutions or research institutes.

Graduates in the second-level academic diploma course of the School of Painting must have acquired:

  • advanced historical, technical and artistic knowledge and skills in the field of painting and visual arts, which allow the acquisition of a qualified professionalism in autonomous expressive research, which is linked both to traditional techniques and to the experimentation of new expressive languages;
  • in-depth skills in communication and expressive research, skills that allow experimentation and the development of new languages of art;
  • interpretative and expressive abilities of complex phenomena related to the world of art, its contexts, its diffusion, the interpretation of reality and the contemporary image;
  • advanced knowledge of the theory and history of art, obtained through an educational path aimed at an in-depth analysis of the theories, materials and technological equipment of art, but also of the museum and exhibition sector, to which the didactics intends to pay adequate attention ;
  • adequate knowledge and skills that allow the use of a language of the European Community, such as to make the figures formed competitive at European level.


Graduates of second-level of the school will be able to carry out professional activities in different fields, both in the field of Visual Arts and in that of creative activities, also interactive, in relation to the different fields of application; occupational opportunities also include free artistic activity, which can be deployed in the field of visual arts and creative activities, in relation to the different possibilities of applying the acquired skills. The latter will enable second-level graduates to enter the labor market concerning the communication, planning and realization of the most diversified values and artistic expressions, also in the international context.  For this purpose, the educational path includes the promotion of internship or training experiences, to be carried out in companies, ateliers, highly qualified professional studios or study centers, which introduce students in the workplace and which favor the subsequent inclusion of the same in the professions market. The internships are in fact realized in formative experiences of integration of the student in the world of artistic production and allow the further refinement and application of the acquired skills.

The promotion of international educational experiences, which also falls within the objectives of the course, will favor inclusion in the extra-national context.

Among the employment opportunities there is also the teaching, when the conditions foreseen by the current legislation are in place.


To be enrolled in the II level academic diploma course of the School of Painting, it is necessary to hold a first-level academic diploma from the same School or a recognized equivalent level, so a first-level diploma, academic or university, for which the recognition of an adequate number of Educational Credits is possible.

For foreign qualifications, international agreements and current regulations establish the terms for the definition of equivalences.


The final test is composed of:

  • Presentation of papers realized during the studies, selected in agreement with a teacher of the disciplines of address, apt to make evident the maturity and the originality achieved by the student during the training course;
  • A thesis of a historical-theoretical methodological or technical-artistic nature, in the form of an essay, in one of the disciplines included in the academic curriculum or in the personal study plan.
