DAPL04 – FIRST LEVEL ACADEMIC DEGREE IN GRAPHICS – COMICS AND ILLUSTRATION

 

Learning objectives

The course has the aim to form highly qualified artists and experts who, considering the variety and pluralism of languages and the innovations in techniques, will be able to develop their own individual research in graphic and drawing arts, through the experimentation on Multimedia and contemporary Graphics. The current configuration of the discipline requires that the premises mentioned are complemented by a significant increase in the experimental technological profile, which emphasizes innovative disciplines that experiment with the new dimensions of communication and signs. The course of Graphics – Comics and Illustration aims to provide the theoretical, methodological and design tools for the creation and processing of the image within the specific artistic-media dimension of the discipline. Specifically, these tools will be applied to the creation of comic or illustrated stories of which every single step will be considered from conception to implementation and publication. Students will be able to deepen the different aspects of illustration, applying both traditional techniques and new digital and multimedia technologies.


Graduates of the School’s diploma courses must:

  • Adequate knowledge of the techniques of representation in photography, computer graphics, printing techniques, historical and methodological knowledge of graphic processes of comics and illustration;
  • Possess methodological and critical tools adapted to the acquisition of skills in expressive languages, techniques and the most advanced related technologies;
  • Be able to use effectively at least one language of the European Union, in addition to the mother tongue, in the primary area of competence and for the exchange of general information;
  • Have adequate skills and tools for communication and information management, in particular IT tools.

 

Employment prospects

Graduates of the course of Graphics – Comics and Illustration will be able to carry out the activity of cartoonists or illustrators both as a freelancer and in collaboration with publishing companies. Every student can also reach a higher position as responsible for complex publishing projects, also in telematic version, supported by the experience gained in the field of multimedia graphics. These characteristics define and specify the originality of the course compared to the traditional one, already active in this Academy. The Academy will organize, in agreement with public and private bodies, the most appropriate stages and internships to contribute to the achievement of specific professionalism and define, for each course of study, specific training models.

 

Access requirements

Admission requires the possession of:

  • Diploma of upper secondary school or other qualification obtained abroad recognized as suitable by the Academy in compliance with international agreements;
  • An adequate initial preparation of the student, concerning the basic knowledge necessary for the School, verified through the entrance exams.If the examination is not positive, the Academy may indicate specific additional training obligations to be met within the first Year of the course.

 

Type of access test

The entrance exams shall include:

  • A test to verify drawing skills;
  • An aptitude interview, also intended to verify the level of motivation;
  • A presentation of a possible portfolio.

 

Type of final test

The final test consists of:

  • An artistic-project thesis consisting in the production of essays on a subject specifically assigned by the teacher of the course of the discipline to which the student is enrolled;
  • A thesis of historical character – theoretical or methodological or technical – artistic, in the form of a short essay, in one of the disciplines included in the curriculum or in the personal study plan. Any subject of artistic production attached to the thesis will be functional to the specific character of the thesis.
